MANIFESTO & LEGAL STANDARDS

About DroidPorts

A decentralized reference registry celebrating community reverse engineering, compiler innovation, and native video game preservation on mobile hardware.

Our Mission

Over the past decade, video game preservation has experienced an unprecedented renaissance driven by clean-room source decompilations (such as sm64-port and Ship of Harkinian), static binary recompilation frameworks, and open-source engine recreations (like OpenMW and DevilutionX).

While virtual machine emulation has long been the primary method of playing classic games on Android, native ports eliminate emulation overhead entirely. They unlock native widescreen viewports, high refresh rates (up to 120 FPS), modern dual-analog camera systems, motion gyro aiming, and remarkable battery efficiency.

DroidPorts.com was created to serve as the definitive, centralized master index for this ecosystem—cataloging projects, tracking active development, documenting asset extraction requirements, and honoring the engineers behind these achievements.

Clean-Room Compliance Principles

DroidPorts strictly adheres to copyright law, safe-harbor principles, and established clean-room legal precedents. To maintain absolute legal integrity:

1. Zero Proprietary Asset Hosting

DroidPorts does not host, mirror, store, or distribute copyrighted ROM files, proprietary executable code, copyrighted sound files, or textures. All links point directly to public source repositories or official storefronts.

2. User-Supplied Asset Extraction

Every documented port requires users to extract assets locally on their own hardware from legally owned retail game discs, cartridges, or digital purchases (e.g., GOG or Steam).

3. Clean-Room Decompilations

Decompilation projects indexed on DroidPorts use clean-room reverse engineering methods that translate disassembled assembly into original C source code without leaking or distributing manufacturer SDKs.

4. Immediate DMCA Response

We respect intellectual property rights. If you are a copyright holder with questions regarding any documented project listing, please submit an issue on our GitHub repository for immediate review.

Continuous Automated Monitoring Pipeline

To ensure DroidPorts remains perpetually current, our repository includes an automated monitoring pipeline:

  • GitHub Releases Tracker: Monitors release tags and commit milestones across tracked repositories using conditional HTTP ETags to preserve API quotas.
  • Community Signal Ingestion: Gathers announcements from r/AndroidNativePorts, r/AndroidGaming, and r/SBCGaming.
  • Human-in-the-Loop Verification: Newly surfaced projects are staged into an unlisted review queue and verified for security, safe-harbor compliance, and playability before publishing.
